In Summa

near the pounding riggery
we live in all our piratry
eat oiled eel with scalloped rust
of peeling ships swirled to dust
in water funnels spun at dusk
nothing permitted
everything forbidden
we live without conviction
made prone to perversion
by energized pollution
spurning the most spidery fruition
beyond the tension of comprehension
father and son watch daughter roast
a holier note than He can host

at sunrise time unwinds
while we seek our own demise
how the clock burns the flesh
in narcissistic revolutions
until anxiety roots itself in earth
and sprays a nervous gas
upon our trenches
we sound the horns
throw monkey wrenches
as papers beat upon the rocks
warning us the bulls
will only doze so long

and yet they speak
of right and wrong
diatribes to diabetics
allergic to their sugared ethics
turning deaf and dumb
entirely senseless
we push elongation
of our fences
and like Quixote
lacking windmills
operate a circus of dementia
while the century in early sun
still reels in the previous one

trying to digest
my daughter's kidneys
the soldiers lie
in arms of lovers
of noxious fumes
beyond suppression
some call this primal regression
but look to me for explanation
I've inhaled annihilation
it is that to which we were born
and from that which we've been shorn

In Summa: So that man may respect himself, he must be capable of doing evil. ~ Nietzsche

Why the Moon Rains

the moon often rains
in satellite sympathy
indistinguishable
from cloud empathy
lunar drops fall in tandem
with drops of water
scattering random
sequences like cymbals
not symbols
bereft of all but bereavement
for human achievement
memorializing the moment
when feet touched its surface
and bodies bounded aloft
happily sad as any mystery
unpuzzled with detectives
now stranded in perfect murder
thus the moon rains
to erase fingerprints
leaving us this if only this
the crime we hatched
cracking the eggshells
the eggheads and magicians
the lords and princes
satisfying their senses
sensing the senseless
missing the rain for the moon
planting trees burning forests
energy to provide
more and more answers
hatching and batching
in future ruins

Street Priest

morning's disarray
frigid in the black sun
living by the skin of his gums
gold teeth pawned in olden days
double half-witted Christ prostituting
the rosary roses of infinite Mary Magdelenes
soulless mates with whom to bind his business
streetwalking the neon plying corporate copulation
stocking exchange promises of misdemeanors paid well
on crystallized nights atop the broken-glassed boardwalks
the black-moon priest with confession and penance to sell

The A to Z Guide to Life and Death

What comes before A
and follows Z
an aborted argument
that dies in zzzz's
and if numbered debates
never end
our language
remains as confined
as our lives
thus less abstract
than mathematics
yet in parentheses
we speak
algebraic equations
our letters too variable
for conclusions
so inevitable
as we desire
except in Z's
the final notes
gulped chords
and resonance swallowed
it comes to a rest
this piano sonata
under its sheets
no reading or talking
the last key lost
barring admission
to our towering babble

Pacha

the checkered fields
of kings and queens
bishops knights rooks
and pawns
every square
marking space
of seconds
minutes
our glass
board
demarcating
four ways to death
each decision
a wish to rend
the pieces free
from restrictions
of their geometry
but in the end
swept aside
in equilibrium
now all have died
fallen from this map
of time which resets
and readjusts
the wearless
abacus
