Not Quicksand at All (nothing is irrelevant) © Carolyn Srygley-Moore (2011)

I unwrap my silences to better defend my song. I hear the apprehensions in your touch. Nothing is irrelevant. We take hammers to the nails & pound, pound for the noise of it reverberates through our ribs. The hibiscus bloom is tiny as a kitten's heart.

I seek redemption in the strangest things. She is happy I give her a hug     she expresses disdain. Is it the smell of pineapple on my hands? I cored the fruit. I scraped the lining from the rings. Pineapple feels like porcupine. I unwrap my silences as I unwrap my body a shawl of shadow & light each, twining. Once I wrote about a girl clutching vines as slowly the vines broke around her. She thought there was quicksand beneath her & found pebble & mud & grass.

Only pebble & mud & grass. Enough tolerance to bear her weight as she asked questions of formidable relevancy. The meaning of chocolate melting on the tongue. The meaning of tongues as they speak every culture every  divinitiy gripping language like time. Enough tolerance to bear her weight. Enough anger to weave a song.
